Preparing Pediatric Nursing Educators for the Next Generation of Learning
Before introducing the PeDXR Extended Reality Application (PEDXR ERA) to students, pediatric nursing educators from the project’s partner universities participated in a training workshop in February 2026. The workshop, designed and delivered by the developer of PEDXR ERA and project partner Omega Technology, aimed to familiarize educators with the application’s technical features and operational use.
Exploring Virtual Reality
A visual tour was given of PEDXR ERA and instructions were provided for navigating the application. Pediatric nursing educators from the project’s partner universities were taught how to:
- Assemble VR components and use VR controls
- Log in to the PEDXR ERA
- Use hand gestures to operate the PEDXR ERA – making selections, operating virtual equipment and entering/exiting scenarios
Furthermore, video tutorials provided guidance in how users can virtually interact in the PEDXR ERA environment – using card, list, pick up based interactions.
The guide mode of PEDXR ERA was also introduced, demonstrating how users who activate this feature receive immediate visual feedback while completing a VR scenario. This functionality allows users to monitor their progress and refine their responses in real time. The guide mode uses coloured indicators—green for correct, yellow for partially correct, and red for incorrect responses—to provide instant feedback, thereby reinforcing learning and supporting skill development.
Data Remains Private
In PEDXR ERA data privacy is ensured. The training highlighted the data privacy measurements build in PEDXR ERA that allow account users to access, observe and download detailed analytics for their users. Such analytics provide comprehensive information on users’ log activity and selections, clearly indicating areas in which they performed well or require improvement.
Advancing Pediatric Nursing Education
The introduction of VR into pediatric nursing education represents a significant step toward modern, experiential learning. Through the Train the Trainees session, PeDXR paediatric nursing educators are now equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to guide students through immersive clinical experiences offered by the PEDXR ERA that enhance understanding, confidence, and preparedness for real-world pediatric care.
As the program moves forward, pediatric nursing students will soon begin engaging with these VR simulations—benefiting from educators who are fully prepared to lead them through this innovative learning environment.
Stay tuned for updates as we continue integrating immersive technologies into healthcare education and shaping the future of pediatric nursing training.
