PeDXR Showcasing Extended Reality in Action
Technology is no longer a distant prospect in healthcare; it is an integral part of everyday nursing practice. From digital health records to immersive simulation, nurses are expected not only to use technological tools, but also to critically integrate them into patient care.
To actively engage students with these developments, Thomas More Lier organised an inspiration day for all nursing students, from first to final year. The programme combined plenary keynote sessions in the morning with interactive workshops and an experiential innovation fair in the afternoon, creating space for both reflection and hands-on exploration.
The PeDXR project was featured by Katrin De Winter at the fair, where students had the opportunity to test several preliminary XR scenarios. These immersive experiences highlighted the educational potential of Extended Reality in nursing, particularly in fostering clinical reasoning, communication skills, and patient safety awareness.
Students described the experience as both valuable and enjoyable. The event clearly demonstrated that technological innovation, when meaningfully embedded in education, can strengthen engagement and prepare future nurses for a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
