In November 2024, Mrs. Christiana Nicolaou, Assistant Professor at the Cyprus University of Technology, Nursing Department, participated in the 17th European Public Health Conference in Lisbon, Portugal. This prestigious event provided an excellent platform for sharing insights and exploring emerging trends in public health and healthcare education.
During the conference, Mrs. Christiana Nicolaou presented the Extended Reality Learning Framework for Pediatric Nursing project to a diverse audience of academics and healthcare professionals. Her presentation focused on the development and validation of a questionnaire designed to assess students’ learning needs in relation to extended reality (XR) technology.
Mrs. Nicolaou emphasized the importance of incorporating innovative learning tools into curricula, as children’s nursing education enters a new era. In this era, digital, non-face-to-face learning models are becoming more prevalent. She highlighted how the Learning Framework being developed by the project will support Higher Education Institutes in adapting to this shift.
This presentation marks a significant milestone in promoting the integration of extended reality in healthcare education. XR technology enables students to visualize complex concepts and acquire new knowledge and skills interactively, affordably, and safely. By replacing traditional, high-cost training methods that require physical presence, extensive time, and detailed planning, it paves the way for future innovations in nursing and medical training.
